September 2018: Linn County Tree Farm of the year tour

Linn County Tree Farm of the year tour:

Sherm and Leslie Weld are the 2018 Linn County tree farmers of the year. Their 140 acre farm, on Crescent hill road near Holley, has been in Weld family for over 50 years. On the tour we will view an active commercial thinning operation conducted by Scott Melcher. The stand being thinned was converted from a hayfield to a Douglas fir forest 20 years ago. We will also view and discus the establishment and management of other timber stands while emphasizing field conversion, reclamation, and stocking control. The tour will end alongside a beautiful spring fed pond where we will have lunch.
The Linn County Small Woodlands group and the Weld family welcome all interested individuals, OSWA members or not, for the tour and lunch.
